I was born in a little city not too far from the Texas-Louisiana border. I was raised by my grandparents after my mother’s death. I realized that with the absence of a father, I would have to take personal responsibility for my growth. That conviction was embedded in me by my grandfather, a WWII veteran, and my loving grandmother who raised me under a patriotic umbrella. They also held and impressed upon me the belief that anything is possible if you put your mind to it.
My commitment to individuality led me to New Orleans where I attended Dillard University in the pursuit of business. Fueled with an entrepreneurial spirit, I found one of Booker T. Washington’s motto’s to reign true: “Economic freedom is the foundation to political freedom.” In college I found that the key to overcoming life’s inequities is to grow in one’s morality and embrace every opportunity to renew one’s commitment to stepping out on faith.
After leaving Dillard University and in the wake of my grandparents’ deaths, I found myself following my grandfather’s footsteps– I joined the United States Air Force. While traveling down life’s odyssey, I met my “wife to be” in the city of Austin. Not long into our marriage and establishing a home in New Orleans, Hurricane Katrina swept away our hopes and eventually our union, but not my personal dream of renewal, renewal for myself, the great state of Texas that adopted me and for the country that allows me the freedom to defend its Constitution and mine.
In lieu of all life’s lessons, good times and bad, failures and successes, degrees and certificates, all of it would be for naught, if I did not commit myself and my voice to bettering the lives of those who can relate, understand, and empathize with my history, but more importantly the future of our existence as citizens, as “We the
Hahn brings 23 years of experience in the financial services industry. Prior to joining Texas Gulf Bank Houston, Hahn was President of the Clear Lake branch and SVP of Commercial Lending for Independence Bank, N.A., Houston, where he managed a significant loan and deposit portfolio and a strong customer following. Previous positions include VP Business Banking for Bank of Texas (formerly Bank of Tanglewood), VP Business Banking for Compass Bank, VP/Credit Analyst for Sterling Bank, and Private Banking Relationship Manager for Northern Trust Bank.
David Sterman has worked as an investment analyst for nearly two decades. He started his Wall Street career in equity research at Smith Barney, culminating in a position as Senior Analyst covering European banks. While at Smith Barney, he learned of all the tricks used by Wall Street to steer the best advice to their top clients and their own trading desk.
David has also served as Managing Editor at TheStreet.com and Director of Research at Individual Investor. In addition, David worked as Director of Research for Jesup & Lamont Securities. David has made numerous media appearances over the years, primarily on CNBC and Bloomberg TV, and has a master’s degree in management from Georgia Tech.
Matt Ferris is the Chairman of the United States Gold Bureau, a physical precious metals company headquartered in Austin, Texas. The Company was targeted for takeover by Mr. Ferris and his associates following the identification of opportunities for significant improvement in the management and operations of the firm, in addition to the long-term outlook for hard assets over the coming decades. Mr. Ferris, along with his business partners and management team restructured the Company in 2008 and are now guiding its healthy, rapid growth.
In addition to serving as the Chairman of the United States Gold Bureau, Mr. Ferris is an active investor and entrepreneur; he is a frequent speaker on entrepreneurship at the University of Texas at Austin.
Mr. Ferris has significant experience in international business, especially in Asia. Prior to acquiring the United States Gold Bureau, Mr. Ferris founded a consumer products business that solved a significant problem in residential fire safety.
Most recently, Mr. Ferris has taken an active role in evaluating and seeking solutions for regulatory and political pressures that are affecting the rare coin and precious metals industry. In order to ensure that private citizens retain unrestricted access to precious metals, he became a founding member of the Gold and Silver PAC.
In his spare time, Matt is an avid water skier. Mr. Ferris holds an MBA in international business and entrepreneurship from the Terry College of Business at the University of Georgia, in addition to a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting from the California State University at Chico.
